An
8' three piece 5 weight built for a Doctor in Shreveport,
Louisiana. I call this my Otter Creek taper. It's
namesake (Otter Creek) joins the Norfork
River just at the upper end of the catch and release
area. There is a shelf along the far bank which leads to a
trough. If you can get a dead drift through that trough, you can
catch
a fish nearly every cast. Making the cast and getting the drift
require a powerful rod capable of making a 50' cast over and over, and
throwing a big upstream mend as soon as the fly touches the
water. But the necessary 6x tippet requires
light tips. This taper was developed with that spot in mind, and
