Years ago I bought an unmarked Leonard 50DF from Carmine Lisella, and fell in love with bamboo rods. A friend and I were fishing together one day and swapped rods for awhile as friend will. At the end of the day he bought that rod for me for twice what I had paid. Little did I know it would take five times that amount to replace that rod. That started me on the road to making my own bamboo rods.

I built both of these Leonard 50DF tapered rods as a tribute to the one I purchased from Carmine then sold to my friend. Today it's floating around northern California with Jim W. I plan to make another in 2007.
