that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. When I completed this
first bamboo rod, at age 39, I thought it was the most beautiful thing
I had ever seen. Today I know better. This is a 7' 9" three
piece 3/4 weight based on a Wayne Cattanach taper. At least I
heeded the advice of others to use quality components like the
Bellinger reel seat and CSE ferrules. My friend Kurt Loup made
this beautiful walnut hexagonal tube in honor of my reaching the goal
of completing a first rod.
Though I made all my first 20-25 rods for myself, all but the rod above have found new homes through the years. These are my only two photos of the fourth rod I made, a 7' 6" three piece 2 weight. My friend Earl fishes it annually on a certain stretch of a certain stream in Montana.
